Researches show that most of the first year students always face some common problems during university life, which might give them pressure, stress and burden. In fact, due to these problems, a surprisingly high percentage of college freshmen don't go on to graduate. what accounts for these problems? the difficulties that they face are as follows :
- Culture Shock - It can be referred as new environments new faces, new people, new languages. An example is, when international students come to Kuala Lumpur, to pursue their studies. The difference between cultures intrigue most of the students. Some find it fun exploring news cultures whereas others may face difficulties to adopt and adjust to the new cultures and environment.
- Academic - The transition from high school to University redefines the students, making them getting used to new methods of teaching and ways of learning. They have to understand different types of assessment formats and cope with the volume and pace of workload.
- Money - Newcomers are often disturbed with all the high unexpected university bills that pop out. On top of that, they have to manage their budget to pay the rental, food and transportation. The amount of money spent often turns out to be much more than planned.
- Administrative - University always comes with numerous steps of complicated administrative procedures . At the beginning, it is quite difficult to get grip of what is going on around and how do things work. To be able to adapt to the university life and familiarizing themselves with the university services and procedures, they have to keep themselves constantly updated.
- Personal and Social Relationship - Most common problem
faced by students is the personal and social challenge. Leaving parental roof
to to go to study abroad brings a cherishing first taste of independence to the
students. They make new friends, get exposed to fresh and exciting
opportunities and get in touch with activities that they have never tried
before. However, most of them are not prepared to deal with such
responsibility. Thus they experience difficulties in coping with the changing
friendships and trying to
strike a balance between their academic and social life and, at the same time,
dealing with the feeling of homesickness.
In every problem of course will have the solution to get the solution have to face the problem and solve it. The person who runs away from their problem, will never be success in entire of their life. you can find the solution on each problem, such as the money problem, you had to able manage your own pocket money properly its also will be useful in the future, so you have to define, whether the thing you are going to buy, will be use by you or not, also you don’t need to spent a lot of money for the useless thing. You can hang-out, having fun with your friends but you have to define your budget and make sure your out come won't more than it. For easier to arrange your money, you can write down the expenses during the certain period.
Beside of financial problem, you also will face cultural shock, for certain people will feel uncertainty in the new life like entering the university so for the solution is you can build relationship with the other people and make them as one of friend, then they can give you like comfortable in your new life, especially for international student that they will feel the differentiate about culture, language, habit, food, and other things with their own hometown, sometimes make them feel depression, but as time as goes they will be more comfortable with the new situation. Then student in the university also have the problem about their education, because of difficulties of the subject in the university.
To conclude with, the students have to study hard and smart, do the revision at home and try to focus at class with that they will be more easy to face any problem in future, it also can make they more confident during final paper.
